You're listening to a Business Booster episode of The Ring The Bling And All The Things podcast. My name is Kristina Stubblefield. I'm a technology consultant, marketing strategist, business coach, and in the past a wedding vendor. In these podcast episodes, I'm providing impactful, easy to implement solutions and strategies for efficient workflow and business growth. Now, let's dive in to this episode.
Everybody knows the word Google. However, Google has changed the name of Google My Business. It is now known as Google business profile. And the reason I wanted to address this in an episode is because I do talk a lot about the importance of your online presence, especially for wedding professionals. Now to some, it may be very surprising that Google would change the name of one of their products. But to be honest with you, it's not. Some of you may know that Google My Business has not always been called that. In the past, it was Google Local. It was also Google Places. And then if I remember correctly, way back, it was Google Plus Local. So now they're taking on the name of Google business profile. And I'm going to try not to mess that up throughout this episode, instead of GM, B, it is now G, B. P, I'm going to try my best. So what I want to make sure everyone understands is the significance of your business, having a listing on Google business profile is still very important that it has not changed just because of the name change, everyone should have their business listed on Google. And the way to do that is through Google business profile. And it's still free, I have not heard of any information coming down, that that is going to change. Now we know things can change at any time, we don't need to talk about that. That's a few episodes in itself. But every business should be listed on Google business profile. Don't be deterred, just because of the name change, there are a couple things that I want to discuss, that have to do with the name change in some of the other changes that are coming down, or that have already taken place. Number one, instead of going to a control center or dashboard, you can now make edits to your Google business profile, right in the search window. So if you go out and you search yourself on Google, and you're logged into the account, that is the admin or the one that created that Google business profile, then you will be able to make edits right there. The other thing is the discussion or the information that has been put out there is that they are going to retire the Google My Business app. Now, I don't know if there will be another app right now at the time of this recording. I'm hearing mixed things, I would find it very surprising if they would not have an app. Because if you use Google My Business, which is now Google business profile, if you actively use that and you use the messages messaging feature, then you know that the only way to reply to messages is by having that mobile app installed. So there'll be more information to come on that. But there is word out there that that Google My Business App will be retired in 2022.
I know that these changes can sound frustrating, but to be honest with you my take on it is they are trying to make it easier on small business owners by not having to go to another place to manage your listing. You are able to do it right there inside of the search. Now some other questions I've been asked or what about the other functionalities or the other features inside the old Google My Business dashboard? That would be analytics or reporting. So there, let's address that information is kind of limited of what's coming out. I'm sure that as they make the changes throughout 2022, that more information will be available. But those features, I have found very beneficial for not only myself but also for clients that we work with. So I hope that not all of those features go away. One of the features that I'm excited about what's coming out, is a chat feature. And I mentioned just a couple minutes ago about the messages. And now that I say this, you know, maybe they're going more in a direction of where it's just going to be considered chatting versus actually sending a message and getting a response. So let me explain this, they are going to make a chat button available just like you can push the call button or you can push the button for directions or go to your website. If you enable the feature, there will be a chat button. And people that are doing Google searches, and find your business will be able to chat with you in real time. Now for some, they may be thinking oh my gosh, something else for me to keep up with. But in all honesty, you want to be found on the Google search, you want people to reach out. And this could help drive traffic, it is also going to challenge you in regards to your customer service skills. And your how quickly you respond, how you stay connected with leads, maybe not even clients but potential leads. And this feature is not going to be for everyone, the best part about it is it is going to be one that to my understanding, you are going to be able to enable it or leave it turned off. If you think about it from this angle, you may be able to close a deal quicker, not let's not even say a deal. Let's not even say book an event, you may be able to set a consultation, or a meeting just from chatting where they found you in search. And I think once you wrap your mind around that aspect of it, the potential to move from a cold lead into an immediate, warm lead for your business. That is impressive to be honest with you that levels the playing field in my opinion. And again, some of these changes I've talked about is for the benefit of small business owners. Again, I come back to you know, I knew this was gonna be a short episode. But I wanted to make sure that people knew the value, the benefit, the importance of your business being listed on Google, my business or now Google business profile is still there. To be honest with you, I've really believe it's increasing. And you know, I'm a numbers person. Here's something that I'll leave you with. And I will share more information as it comes about make sure to follow me on social media. And I will be posting information as it becomes available in regards to the Google business profile. But there is a re some information that I want to share with you. It is an IP SOS research is where this information comes in regards to keeping your Google business profile updated. And why it's important to point seven times more likely to be considered more reputable. If you keep it updated, get seven times more clicks. 70% more likely to attract local. I'm sorry 70% more likely to attract location visits at seven out of 10 at a high number 50% more likely to lead to a purchase if d percent more likely to lead to a purchase.
And all in all it circles back around Google business profile should be part of any wedding professionals marketing plan. It should be something that is updated on a regular basis. It should be something that is involved in your entire marketing strategy. And I only believe that the changes that are coming With Google business profile, are only going to be additional benefits for small business owners. And anything out there that helps with your online presence being found, is really important. It's important to me, I talk a lot about it. And the reason it is, is, is that's what produces results. At the end of the day, no matter what you're spending your marketing dollars on, you want it to produce results. And in my opinion, the changes that are happening with G, B, P, is only going to help produce results. And as of now, and as I mentioned, I've not heard any discussion, it's free to have your business listed on there. It is not the one and only thing to do in regards to marketing as a wedding professional. You've heard me talk more multiple times that there are pieces to the marketing pie. This is one piece that I talked to all of my clients about. And although you see a name change, although you may see a different logo, although the mobile app may go away. Keep in mind, the importance of your business being listed on it, as well as it being updated on a regular basis is still very true. I hope that this information has been helpful. I've received several questions about this. And people wanting to know if they should keep it as part of their marketing tools. The answer to that is yes, do not let the name change scare you away or think oh, I'm gonna sit on the sidelines and see how this plays out. I don't recommend you do that. Stay active with Google business profile. And I will do my best to keep you updated on the changes. Again, connect with me on social media as I post information out there. And as always, if you like what you've heard, I'd love to hear about your marketing strategy, you can always visit the website, hit the contact button, or send me a message directly on social media. Until next time, keep working on your businesses.
